A conversation with MALALAI JOYA

MALALAI JOYA is a courageous Afghan woman who has spoken out against the US-led NATO war and occupation of her country. For over a decade, she’s exposed as a lie that the United States went to war in Afghanistan to liberate women.
Malalai first made headlines ten years ago, at the age of 25, after she publicly denounced warlord domination of Afghanistan’s constitutional assembly. She was physically attacked and her life was threatened. There have been at least 4 attempts on her life. Since then, Malalai has lived underground and is protected at all times by armed bodyguards. And she continues to speak out!
In 2009, she published an autobiography A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice.
Come hear Malalai speak about the current status of women in Afghanistan and what the future will look like when US troops are withdrawn. She will be joined by SHARMIN HOSSAIN, a member of the Ad Hoc Committee Against the Militarization of CUNY who helped organize the protests against former general David Petraeus who is teaching on campus.
