Visiting Scholar Program
About
The CPCP is committed to fostering scholarly exchange and advancing social movements across borders. We invite visiting scholars from around the world to join our weekly seminar and to pursue their own research in New York City.
The CPCP especially encourages applications from people based outside of the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, as well as from people working outside traditional academic settings.

The visiting scholar program at the CPCP includes:
- An opportunity to conduct research in New York City.
- Participation in the CPCP weekly seminar (space permitting).
- Support from the CUNY Graduate Center in obtaining a J-1 visa to the United States, if needed.
- Access to all public programming and lectures sponsored by the CPCP and other CUNY Graduate Center departments.
- Access to the CUNY Graduate Center library and IT infrastructure.
- Opportunities to socialize with other CPCP fellows and CUNY Graduate Center faculty and students.
The visiting scholar program at the CPCP does not include:
- Research funding. Visiting scholars will need to secure funding for their time in New York City or be able to support themselves independently.
- Housing. The CPCP can help connect visiting scholars to informal CUNY housing networks.
- Health insurance. Visiting scholars will need to obtain their own health insurance coverage during their visit.
- Office space.
