CPCP Visiting Scholar Behrooz Ghamari’s Timely New Book Challenges US Conceptions of Iran
Current CPCP visiting scholar Behrooz Ghamari’s new book, The Long War on Iran: New Events, Old Questions, has garnered attention for its timely intervention into US popular discourses on Iran. Comprised of essays written over more than twenty years, Ghamari’s book explores the history of US intervention in the region, focusing on the enduring sanctions imposed on Iran and the persistent perception of the Islamic Republic as a major obstacle to American power.
In an interview with Ghamari, Inkstick described the book as making “a thorough, brick-by-brick argument: Iran is not an anomaly frozen in religious fanaticism, but a modern political society shaped by contested power and popular resistance.” Jadaliyya is hosting a retrospective with Ghamari that explores the meanings and consequences of the 1979 revolution, social movements and struggles for hegemony in the Islamic Republic, and dramatic changes to regional politics over the past half-century.
The CPCP will host our own event with Ghamari on April 14, 2026. Please join us in person to learn more.
